Several of our hives are set aside from honey production and developed for pollinaton. Whether the crop is melons, pumpkins, cucumbers, apples, blueberries or almonds, the sucess of our nationwide food supply depends on the honeybee's ability to pollinate our crops. Many of these hives are used to divide into other hives and are sent along to increase their numbers.
The management techniques and tools of pollination hives vary greatly over honey production. Our hives are transported on pallets with "U" Clips containing four hives to a pallet for easy relocation at the client site. In addition, we continually monitor and medicate the hives for tracheal mites; varroa; and Small Hive Beetle. We are the only Apiary in Virginia that annually undergoes a 100 percent hive inspection by the Virginia Department of Agriculture (VDAC)to ensure we do not spread disease or pests to your fields. We provide a properly executed and numbered Certificate of Apiary Inspection that can be verified by the Commonwealth Apiarists office.
The next time you are considering an apiary for pollination services, ask them to provide you with a certificate of inspection prior to using their services. It is your insurance that your Beekeeper is doing his part to protect you and our nations food supply.
